US Office of Educational Technology, Richard Culatta, announced today that Secretary Arne Duncan will visit a Future Ready district in Williamsfield, Illinois. The purpose of the visit is to highlight the great work Williamsfield Community School District has done in moving to openly licensed digital resources in place of traditional textbooks. As part of the visit Secretary Duncan will announce the creation a new position at the U.S. Department of Education to help districts and states follow the path of Williamsfield and adopt open education resources. Andrew Marcinek will serve as the first Advisor for Open Education.
This stop is the first of a series of events that will be occurring over the next year to accelerate the transition to openly licensed digital learning resources in schools. To learn more about Williamsfield, watch this great video!
